Best restaurants in the village for snacks

If you are looking for a quick bite to eat, we recommend the following places with good vegetarian options:

The soup stand in the church square called “Soupi” offers extremely tasty soups (only in winter).

The Fuchs bakery has tasty vegetarian sandwiches (try the hummus avocado toast on dinkel bread - DELICIOUS!).

In Hotel P.O.S.T. (Bahnhofstrasse), the Brown Cow Pub has excellent nachos topped with cheese..

Author’s favourite: one of the best vegetarian restaurants in Zermatt for snacks in our opinion is the Café Petit Royal. The café offers its guests delicious food such as vegetarian quiche, focaccia, Birchermüesli and soups in a homely atmosphere. You will find homemade desserts and wonderful coffee variations, which can also be prepared with soy milk if desired. Both vegetarian and vegan options can be found on the menu.
Tip: The homemade Budapest cake is the highlight at Café Petit Royal, you shouldn’t miss the chance to try a slice.

Best restaurants in the village for dinner

By now, most restaurants in Zermatt have vegetarian options on their menu. Here is a listing of the best vegetarian restaurants in Zermatt for dinner:

The Bazaar by Cervo is an almost exclusively vegetarian restaurant dedicated to oriental cuisine. It serves varied mezze and traditional dishes that immerse you in the far eastern culture with every bite. Wherever possible, organic ingredients from the region are used.

Tip: whether you’re a late riser or an early bird, brunch at Bazaar is a unique experience. The bread is made from 100% organic flour and baked in-house. The jams and chocolate spreads also are homemade. You can enjoy the all-you-can-eat brunch daily from 7.30 – 11.30 a.m. for only CHF 39.00 per person.

The Sonnmatten Restaurant offers a separate menu with exclusively vegetarian dishes. The restaurant has been awarded 13 Gault Millau points and emphasises fresh and regional ingredients. It’s on the pricier side, but definitely worth a visit! The children’s playground next to the restaurant makes it a particularly enjoyable experience for families with children.

The Pollux restaurant in Zermatt hosts the “Vegistube” for delicious classic and unusual dishes. All vegetarian dishes are also available as vegan versions on request. Whether you choose the homemade cranberry gnocchis, sweet potato curry, Greek naan pizza or hash browns with grilled vegetables – vegetarians and non-vegetarians can never get enough of them.

Republic Zermatt is a burger bar with live sports coverage, a pool table and probably the largest selection of local and international beers in Zermatt. It does not offer a variety of choices for vegetarians, but the reason it has found its way into our guide to the best vegetarian restaurants in Zermatt is the veggie burger. The veggie burger with a sweet potato pattie is so delicious that vegetarians and non-vegetarians visit the bar regularly just for a bite of this masterpiece.

Mountain restaurants - eating on the slopes

Although the mountain restaurants in Zermatt are among the best restaurants on the slopes worldwide, there generally still is a need to catch up when it comes to vegetarian options. Valais cuisine generally involves a lot of meat and it often is difficult to find good vegetarian options on the slopes. French fries and salad are often the only vegetarian options in many places.

There are however a few options, here are the best vegetarian restaurants in Zermatt on the slopes:

Restaurant Staffelalp has very tasty “Schupfnudeln” (a yummy German pasta dish) and pasta with Cinque Pi sauce.

Restaurant Blatten has a couple of good vegetarian options such as the delicious porcini mushroom soup or Rösti with vegetables (a Swiss potato dish).

The Adlerhitta also has some very tasty options. The Spaghetti aglio olio is highly recommended.
